Endoscopic Brow Lift Technique
When patients begin to notice the tell-tale signs of aging on the face, most begin contemplating a facelift. While a facelift is one of the more widely known cosmetic surgery procedures, it is not always the right option for patients. Dr. Peter Brownrigg offers an array of facial plastic surgery procedures that allow him to meet the specific needs and desires of each patient. Many patients have visible signs of aging, such as loose skin, creases, and wrinkles primarily on the upper third of the face. For these Ottawa patients, an endoscopic brow lift can address these concerns while resulting in a shortened recovery period and minimal scarring.
The Procedure
A brow lift, which is also known as a forehead lift, is performed in order to lift and tighten the skin from the brow line in order to smooth out lines and wrinkles. By making manipulations to the upper third of the face, Dr. Brownrigg can rejuvenate the area of the face that most commonly shows early signs of aging. Dr. Brownrigg takes the benefits of a traditional brow lift one step further by utilizing the endoscopic brow lift technique. This technique results in a quicker recovery and leaves minimal scarring, which is easily hidden once healed.
While a traditional brow lift requires an incision that spans the width of the forehead at the scalp, the endoscopic technique uses three small incisions that are hidden behind the hairline. Through these incisions, Dr. Brownrigg inserts an endoscope, a small surgical tool that has a camera, which grants Dr. Brownrigg full visibility of the manipulations being made to the underlying facial muscles. Once the appropriate alterations have been made, Dr. Brownrigg will close the incisions and recovery will begin.
Benefits of the Endoscopic Technique
Dr. Brownrigg chooses to use the endoscopic technique for brow lift surgery because it offers his patients a range of benefits exclusive to this technique. Patients who undergo the endoscopic facelift technique can expect the following benefits:
- More rapid recovery: The average recovery from an endoscopic brow lift is quicker than recovery from a traditional brow lift procedure. While some swelling may persist for up to three weeks, most patients have recovered from an endoscopic brow lift and can return to their normal schedule after one week.
- More natural results: Because the endoscopic technique makes alterations to the underlying facial muscles rather than making a universal incision and lift along the forehead, most patients find that the results of the endoscopic technique appear more natural.
- Little to no numbing of the forehead: A traditional brow lift is likely to result in a numbing of the forehead. The endoscopic technique should result in little or no numbing.
- Minimal scarring: The three small incisions that are required for the endoscopic technique will result in minimal scarring. The scars that do result will be small and easily hidden behind the hairline.
