Juvéderm® Uses By Peter Brownrigg on August 18, 2011

Many people would like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face or find a solution for sagging skin in the face. Thing is, many people would like to do this without having to undergo an invasive surgery such as a facelift or a cosmetic eyelid surgery. This is an understandable concern. You see, even though facial plastic surgery is generally safe overall, all surgeries carry with them a certain amount of risk. In addition, facial plastic surgery can be expensive. Most people wonder whether or not a less invasive and less expensive solution for facial wrinkles and sagging exists.

Well, the answer is that solutions do exist that do not involve surgery. These solutions are injectable fillers or dermal fillers. This basically means safe substances that are injected into the skin and underlying tissues to reduce wrinkles, add rejuvenating volume, and fight the signs of aging.

When you visit with Ottawa, Ontario plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Brownrigg, he will determine how to best meet your aesthetic needs and meet your wishes. While plastic surgery can offer great results, he will be more than happy to also suggest non-surgical options such as dermal fillers.

One such dermal filler that has become quite popular lately is Juvéderm®. Juvéderm® is made predominantly out of hyraluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. This means that this dermal filler will not cause allergic reactions or adverse side effects that patients sometimes experience when using animal-derived filler substances. Essentially anyone who is interested in enhancing the suppleness of various areas of their face and removing facial wrinkles is a good candidate for Juvéderm®.

You’ll be asked not to take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication roughly two days before your treatment. Similarly, if you usually wear make-up, you will be asked not to wear make-up on the day of your treatment. During the actual Juvéderm® treatment, the Juvéderm® will be introduced into the face and deeper tissues of the face via syringe. Dr. Brownrigg will inject into each treatment area as needed. The overall treatment will last roughly 30 minutes and you should only experience mild pinching or stinging.

Be sure not to excessively touch or rub the treatment area for a few days after treatment. Patients should also avoid any unnecessary or prolonged exposure to heat, cold, and direct sunlight for roughly two weeks after Juvéderm® treatment.

It seems apt we should bring up another injectable treatment that is not a dermal filler to offer some clarification for potential patients. That treatment is BOTOX® injections. Ottawa, Ontario BOTOX® injections do not add volume but rather freeze the muscles in the injection site. This will prevent the formation of wrinkles in that area, with results lasting for a few months. Whether Juvéderm® or BOTOX® injections are best for you will be determined during your consultation.
