Think a facelift is the only way to give your look a lift and smooth out facial wrinkles? Think again! Today’s patients have an array of treatments to choose from. At our Ontario practice, the crease-erasing power of BOTOX® Cosmetic continues to astound patients. Injectable fillers like Dermalive®, Artecoll®, and Juvederm® are effective in filling in creases and scars, and can even subtly augment your cheeks and lips. A PhotoFacial™ treatment at our Ottawa center is an amazing way to erase sun damage, rosacea, and other discolorations. Microdermabrasion remains an impressive way to reveal a fresh, vibrant layer of skin. Lastly, our medical skin care products can give a healthy glow to your skin.
BOTOX® Cosmetic has really taken off, and for good reason. Patients from throughout Ontario have found that BOTOX® is an excellent semi-permanent treatment for frown lines, crow’s feet, thick bands in the neck, and all facial wrinkles. It creates no downtime and is nearly painless. In 2005, about 3.3 million people benefited from the impact that BOTOX® Cosmetic can have on the appearance of the forehead, face, and neck.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is made of the purified form of a toxin, which blocks the nerve impulses to the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. During the treatment, Dr. Brownrigg will target the muscles that contract to cause your wrinkles. Each muscle will receive about three injections, and the entire treatment lasts 10 to 30 minutes.
It’s common to experience some stinging at the injection site, while some patients experience bruises, small red marks, or swelling at the site. These disappear quickly, and swelling can be helped with simple massage.
The results of BOTOX® treatments last up to four months. People throughout Ontario are relying on BOTOX® Cosmetic as a quick, easy, and renewable way to revitalize their appearance and erase the fine lines that come with aging. As the effects of your BOTOX® treatment wear off, your wrinkles will return, but they can be safely treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic again as needed.
When performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Brownrigg, BOTOX® Cosmetic is an effective and simple treatment for wrinkles. Contact our cosmetic surgery center in Ontario for more BOTOX® Cosmetic information.
Over a series of three to five treatments, PhotoFacial™ rejuvenation can give our Ottawa patients nearly a 100 percent improvement in facial imperfections.
PhotoFacial™ treats a variety of problems, including age spots, mild acne scars, rosacea, uneven texture, fine lines, and large pores – even dark bags under the eyes! A PhotoFacial™ can even take the pigment out of moles on your face, though it can’t treat frown lines (lines between the eyes) or substitute for a facelift. Since the neck and chest area can also become visibly sun-damaged, PhotoFacial™ is also a great treatment for these areas.
This treatment is ideal for those with sun damage, those who have rosacea or other types of redness, or those who simply wish to improve the look and feel of their face.
A PhotoFacial™ works by exposing your face to a series of intense pulses of light; unlike a laser, this light works over many wavelengths, not just one, and penetrates deeply into the face. The treatment is designed to give patients no downtime, though some people may experience discomfort during the treatment and redness, blistering, or bruising briefly following treatment. Most patients undergo a series of three to five treatments of 30 minutes each and return for a follow-up visit two or more years later.
PhotoFacial™ can be used in conjunction with other skin treatments, usually microdermabrasion. It is best to talk to Dr. Brownrigg about your individual challenges, and he will determine which treatment or combination of treatments is best for you. We offer a selection of different injectable fillers that can erase fine lines, add facial volume that is lost during the aging process, fill in scars, and augment your lips, cheeks or chin — all without surgery.
Our practice has just begun to use Restylane® SubQ™ for facial rejuvenation and the subtle, non-surgical augmentation of the chin and cheeks. This product represents a breakthrough in non-surgical facial contouring treatments, and is more convenient, predictable and cost-effective compared to earlier treatments.
As we age, soft tissue in the face loses volume, resulting in a thinning of the skin and a loss of firmness, plumpness and elasticity. This leads to sagging, sinking and a general flattening of facial features. The loss of volume can result in:
Restylane® SubQ™ is an effective method to restore this lost volume, reduce sagging and hollowness, and to help you look fresher and more youthful.
The Restylane® SubQ™ gel is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already present in the human body. Restylane® SubQ™ treatments can be carried out immediately, with no need for allergy testing. This safe, biocompatible gel produces immediate aesthetic results with minimal recovery time, and the effects of treatments generally last about six months.
Restylane® SubQ™ is tailored for the cheeks and chin, because it works by adding volume to shape facial contours. Patients with flat cheekbones can benefit from Restylane® SubQ™ treatments, as it can create the appearance of more defined cheekbones — without surgery.
Restylane® SubQ™ is also an excellent tool for augmentation or rejuvenation of the chin profile in sagging or recession of the chin. As an effective method of adding volume, Restylane® SubQ™ is an excellent option for seeking a non-surgical method of chin augmentation.
Please contact our cosmetic surgery practice in Ottawa today for further information on Restylane® SubQ™. During your individual consultation, we will address your questions and concerns and help you decide whether Restylane® SubQ™ is ideal for you.
Juvederm® (marketed as Juvederm Ultra Plus™ XC with Lidocaine in Canada) uses hyaluronic acid, to correct wrinkles, advance the lips, correct deep folds, and even shape facial contours such as the chin and cheeks. Juvederm® is not animal-derived, so it poses a very low risk of allergic reaction and doesn't require an allergy test prior to injection.

A youthful face is typically defined by smooth contours including full cheeks and a defined jawline. The overall shape and contour of the face, however, changes with age. As facial volume is gradually lost, the skin becomes thinner and the effects of gravity can become apparent. One of the most noticable changes that occur to the face over time, is the loss of volume or fullness. This may lead to flattening of features and hollowing of the cheeks. Juvederm™Voluma™ uses hyaluronic acid, a sugar that occurs naturally in your skin, to instantly restore lost facial volume in the cheeks and contour the chin and jawline area. Juvederm™Voluma™ also combines with collagen and elastin to improve skin structure and elasticity, and create a smooth look. The results are instant, natural looking and last for up to 18 months.
Microdermabrasion is a safe, sophisticated technology designed to exfoliate the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. If not exfoliated, this layer leaves the skin with irregular, uneven texture and a dull appearance, particularly as aging progresses.
This gentle exfoliation is performed with different specialized diamond tips which are passed over the skin's surface. The diamond tip exfoliates approximately 20-25 microns of the dead skin cells. Once this dead skin is removed, your skin has a fresher, smoother appearance you can see and feel. One microdermabrasion is equivalent to a 70 percent glycolic peel, without any chemical irritation. We do not use crystals, as the diamond tip is the latest system and ensures no inhalation of aluminum oxide crystals.
Men or women with aging, congested, flaky, thickened, dull or sun-damaged skin are ideal candidates for microdermabrasion. You will enjoy improvement and refinement in your pores and skin texture.
Each treatment takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Once the treatment is completed, your face is cleansed and a moisturizing spray and sunblock are applied. Microdermabrasion treatments are progressive; results are visible after two or three sessions. A schedule of five treatments are recommended every two weeks to see optimal results. To maintain your new look, maintenance sessions are suggested once every four to six weeks, or before important events to give your skin a special glow.
You will leave the office with a tingle, with the skin feeling tighter as if exposed to the wind or sun. You will have a rosy glow lasting several hours. In the next few days, you may have a very slight peeling which is relieved by a moisturizer. Microdermabrasion treatments at our Ottawa, Ontario office are performed by a Registered Nurse/Facial Medical Aesthetician who can guide you toward the most effective, up-to-date medical skin care products which spas or salons cannot provide. Weekend and evening appointments can be arranged.
