If you are considering having a brow, or forehead lift as it may be called, you might have a few questions about this plastic surgery procedure. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about brow lifts, along with brief, easy to understand answers.

Q. What is a brow or forehead lift?

A. A brow lift, or forehead lift as it may also be called, is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that is done to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the forehead, to lift a drooping or sagging brow, and in some cases to address a receding hairline.

Q. Is a brow lift the same thing as a facelift?

A. No. A facelift affects the lower two-thirds of the face only. Many plastic surgeons will perform a brow lift in conjunction with a facelift.

Q. How long does it take to heal after a brow lift?

A. Normally, you can expect a healing period of between five to ten days, when your sutures or clips will be removed by your cosmetic surgeon. You will continue the healing process for several weeks while the swelling subsides and the lines of your incisions fade.

Q. How long are most people off work after a brow or forehead lift?

A. Most patients can return to work as soon as the sutures and/or clips or staples are removed. This generally occurs between 5 and 10 days following the procedure.

Q. How long will the results of a brow lift last?

A. This depends a lot on the lifestyle and habits of the person. A good rule of thumb for people who have had brow or forehead lifts is to avoid excessive or prolonged exposure to the sun. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet and getting plenty of fluids is also helpful in maintaining the youthful results of this or any type of cosmetic surgery.

Q. Will my health insurance pay for a brow lift?

A. Probably not, as it is considered an elective procedure, which means that the surgery is something you choose to do for other reasons besides health issues. Many plastic surgeons will work out a payment plan with you, or there are specialty loans just for cosmetic surgery.
